Imagine two people trying to get to know each other and love one another without knowing each other’s names. "Unthinkable!", you would say. the same is true concerning our relationship with our Father/God. As we discover and understand the names of our God, the more our love for him will increase. In the Lord's Prayer, we are told, 'Hallowed be thy name'. God's name is holy, sacred, and sanctified. Knowing God's name is a good way to know God because it reveals to us his person, nature, and his work. In the Old Testament, there are three fundamental names of God besides his other names and titles.
They are Elohim, Jehovah, and Adonai.
· Elohim - refers to God as the Omnipotent Creator.
· Jehovah - unveils God as the Self Existent Lord who reveals himself.
· Adonai - reveals God as Master and Head.
Studying the various names of God is more than just studying his many titles. The names reveal and relate to the age of the world and God's people’s perspective of him at a particular point in their history. Also during the Old Testament, Israel connected the divine presence or power of God to His name.
Proverbs 18:10 (NKJV)

Deuteronomy 28:7 (NKJV)
